Associate or (full) Professor of Instruction, Lab Director of General Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry at Northwestern University anticipates hiring an Associate or (full) Professor of Instruction to serve as Lab Director of General Chemistry (non-tenure track.) The successful candidate will establish an integrated set of learning objectives for the general chemistry laboratory courses; develop inquiry-based experiments and other approaches to improve student learning and persistence in these courses and the corresponding lecture courses; develop or implement valid assessments of student learning in the general chemistry laboratory courses; disseminate work through scholarly publications and lesson plans for internal use. This position will also participate in teaching assistant training and mentoring, delivering laboratory lectures, and overseeing laboratory sessions and would supervise the Assistant Lab Director.

Applicants should have completed a PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Education, or a related field, must have demonstrated excellence in teaching, significant experience in supervising/overseeing a laboratory, and have an interest in advancing and publishing educational innovations. This position is a continuing faculty position with an initial appointment of two years. It is full time and benefits eligible.
